Summer in the mountains
Enjoy the beautiful alpine summer and the many activities available in the mountains. Montagny is a great base from which to explore the region and breath the clean mountain air. Brides les Bains is located at the foot of the Bozel valley below Montagny and is a famous thermal town having forged a reputation as France's spa centre for getting visitors back to shape. If you seek a little more excitement then visit the local casino in Brides les Bains.
Le Parc national de la Vanoise is Europe's biggest national park and a short drive from Montagny. The Vanoise national park encompasses an impressive diversity of flora, fauna, geology, views, and points of interest. Chamois, ibex, marmots, 125 species of birds including golden eagles, various owls, and three-toed woodpeckers, as well as an enormous array of alpine wildflowers all thrive in the valleys and peaks of Vanoise. The Vanoise park is vast and you can explore this spectacular area for several days by lodging in the many mountain refuges (huts) located in the national park.
Annecy is just over one hour away by car. At the edge of the turquoise Lac d'Annecy, bounded to the east by the turreted peaks of La Tournette and to the west by the long wooded ridge of Le Semnoz, Annecy is one of the most beautiful and popular resort towns of the French Alps. The majestic peaks surrounding the lake, the historic town with its canals and fine restaurants makes Annecy a very special place.
Bozel is a picturesque Savoyarde village with considerable authentic charm and surrounded by beautiful, densely forested slopes, interspersed with fragrant Alpine meadows.
Other areas of scenic beauty include the route passing through Les Arcs, La Rosiere and through the Col du Petit Saint Bernard crossing into Italy through La Thuile and onto Courmayeur and finishing back in France and the beautiful town of Chamonix. Remember your passport.
